Qi Flow Heart Day
Every week, four babies in Australia lose their lives to congenital heart disease. On Saturday, 23rd August 2025, we’re hosting Qi Flow Heart Day, a special charity event supporting HeartKids Australia, an incredible organisation helping children and families affected by congenital heart disease live with courage and hope.

Meet Alicia – A Story of Courage
Alicia is one of those 1 in 100. At a routine 20-week pregnancy scan, her mum, Maggie (owner of Qi Flow Studio), was given heartbreaking news: her unborn baby had a rare and complex condition called HLHS (Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome). That meant Alicia was born with only half a heart.
Doctors told Maggie there was only a 50% chance Alicia would live to see her 5th birthday.
Alicia underwent her first open-heart surgery at just one week old. Before she turned five, she endured five major open-heart surgeries, countless procedures, and months in hospital. She didn’t even get to see her own bedroom until she was five months old and spent her first Christmas in a hospital bed.
Today, Alicia is a thriving 16-year-old, one of the lucky survivors. She lives with daily medications, regular hospital visits, and the unknowns of the future. Yet, she lives life with a smile, driven by strength and hope, and in memory of the children who didn’t survive. She’s a living example that you can live fully, even with only half a heart.
Why Qi Flow Heart Day Matters
Qi Flow Heart Day is a fundraising and awareness event to support HeartKids Australia, a charity close to our hearts.
HeartKids has supported the Vukovic family (and many others) with:
-
Emotional and mental health support
-
Financial assistance, including food vouchers during long hospital stays
-
Connection with other families going through the same journey
-
Teen and young adult programs for CHD survivors
Maggie spent months by Alicia’s hospital bed, leaving her job to care for her daughter. She promised herself that one day she would give back to the community that lifted her up in her darkest times.
That day is now.
